ADMISSIONS POLICY.

The admissions policy statement has been devised and published by the board of management of Blackwater Community School following collaboration with the following partners and interested parties:

  • The Trustees of the school.
  • The Teaching Staff of the School.
  • The Parents’s Council of the School.
  • The Student’s Council of the School.

This policy was ratified by the Board of Management.

The admission’s policy of Blackwater Community School, Lismore is based on the set beliefs, values and philosophy arising out of the mission statement of the school.

We admit pupils of other faiths on the understanding of the Catholic nature of the school and endeavour if possible to accommodate their faith needs.

The school adopts a policy of openness to all prospective pupils including pupils with disabilities, on the condition that we have, or are provided with, the facilities to provide for the needs of the particular student.  An entrance assessment is administrated on Open Night so that we can discover which students might need extra help from September, but is not used as a way of selection or rejection of pupils.

In the event of the school having more applications than places available the following criteria will apply:

  • Brothers and sisters of pupils currently attending.
  • Brothers and sisters of past pupils.
  • Sons/Daughters of past pupils.
  • Pupils from the core catchment area of Blackwater Community School.

Students who are eligible for admission must be willing with parents/guardians to accept the school’s code of behaviour.   Confirmation in writing is required.

The school welcomes pupils at any stage in their secondary education, provided such admission occurs at the start of a school year in September.  Only in exceptional circumstances do we accept students during the school year, for example change of residence.  A place will be offered to such a student subject to availability.  This is designed to minimise disruption of the existing class and to help new students to fit in more easily.  All pupils will be actively encouraged to complete a six year education cycle.
