Curriculum

The Christian Brothers Secondary School offers a wide range of subjects at both Junior and Leaving Certificate levels. The Curriculum offered in the school provides a broad range of educational experiences ensuring breadth and balance in each student’s education.

The Curriculum is constructed on the basis of core and optional subjects.

Junior Cycle

	Irish	English	Business Studies
Core Examination Subjects:	Maths	History	CSPE
	Geography	Science
Non-examination subjects:	Religious Education	Physical Education	Computer Studies (ECDL)
	Social Personal and Health Education
Options all examination subjects:	French	German	Art
	Technical Graphics		Music

Notes:

¨ In First Year each student studies the core and any three optional subjects (eleven examination subjects in all).

¨ In Second Year each student specialises in two of the optional subjects thereby reducing to ten the number of examination subjects taken to Junior Certificate level.

¨ All students are given equal access to subjects and levels.

¨ Classes are organised on the basis of mixed ability groupings, with the exception of Irish, English and Mathematics where students are banded with students of similar ability levels.
