KILLONE. Cill Eoin, the church of Saint John.
The Irish word for John is Seán, but Eoin is the name
given to Saint John, the Apostle. According to tradition, there used
to be a monastery in this townland. The old mansion of Killone was
once the residence of Joseph Dunne who was born in 1746. He was known
as one of the tallest men in Europe and, in his youth, was an officer
in the French Army.
