The Common Gull - Faoilean Ban

by Janice McKenna

Hello, my name is Cecily the common gull. I am a big seagull. I am about 42cms long. I have a pointed yellow-green bill and legs. I have a black eye, a white head, tail and underparts. My back is grey. I was brownish until I was two years old. I say "keee-ya". I eat small birds, fish, small mammals and eggs. I like to visit dumps for food.

We lay three eggs on the ground in May or June. We sit on the eggs for 22 - 25 days. The baby gulls can fly when they are 4 - 5 weeks old.

I usually live at the seaside but come into towns for food.
