The Jackdaw - Cag

"Hello, my name is Jack Jackdaw. People say I am cheeky and small and I love it when they say it. I am about 33cms long. I have pointed wings and glossy black plumage with a greyish head. I am the smallest of the crow family. I am usually found in large flocks and I eat slugs, insects, berries and fruit. I love stealing eggs and nestlings to eat. My friends and I are found in woodlands, parks, towns, cities, farmland and quarries. Keep that a secret because I hate it when people frighten me away.

Jackdaws mate for life. Jackdaws make their nests out of twigs broken from a tree. We make them in trees, chimney pots and old buildings. We lay up to five or six eggs. The hen lays eggs in the nest when she is two. Both parents look after the eggs. When our babies are about one month old they fly.

We are found throughout Europe except in Northern Scandinavia. I stay in Ireland and I like it here."
