The Redwing - Deargan Sneachta by Emma Harte "Hi, I'm a redwing. I'm a member of the thrush family. I come to Ireland in the winter from Norway and Sweden. You might find me in your school playground or in your garden. I usually live in a large flock. You will sometimes see me with fieldfares. I like to eat berries, insects, worms and slugs. I am mainly brown but I have a white breast with brown specks and on my head I have a white pocket around my eye. I am about 23cms long. You might be wondering why I am called a redwing, after all I don't have red wings. When I fly you can see red under my wings." |
