The Fieldfare - Sacan

by Rachel Barber

The fieldfare is a member of the thrush family. The reason they are called fieldfares is that they hang around the fields. The fieldfare comes from Sweden. He is a winter visitor. Fieldfares like to eat insects, worms, slugs and berries. In the spring the fieldfare goes back to Sweden.

A fieldfare is brown with grey near the tail and neck. It is heavily marked on its underparts with arrowhead marks on a white and yellow breast. The fieldfare has a pale yellow bill with a dark tip. In flight, the fieldfare is white under the wings. The fieldfare is about 25 cms long.

The fieldfares come to our playground in groups. They often come with redwings.
