CURRENT NEWS

The Cavan Way Walk Needs You!

We're still looking for walkers, sponsors, donors, and well-wishers for our First Annual Cavan Way Walk, to raise funds and awareness for Carers in our area.

Help the Cause by becoming a:

Sponsor or Walker: a sponsor sheet will be enclosed in the next newsletter, or you can print one from here beginning in July. Donations in any amount are welcome.

Benefactor: We're waiting for a Generous Benefactor in our area to step forward and claim the coveted space on the back of our First Annual (certain to become a collector's edition!!) Cavan Way Walk T-Shirt... If you have a business and a big heart for Carers, step up!

Advertiser: Submit a cheery 'good luck' message to us with a €10 donation, and we'll publish your business-card-size advertisement in our newsletter this year, or put your banner on our website, your choice.

Cheering Squad Member: The end of a long hike deserves a round of applause, and a round for your friends: we're hoping to organise a bit of a party in Dowra so our walkers can look forward to a pint of their favourite when they arrive, and perhaps a few goodies as well. So if you can donate small gifts for our walkers, such as vouchers, badges, t-shirts etc., please let us know. And please bring a few friends along to join us at the end of the trail, to provide much-appreciated support and good cheer!

Fund-raiser: Whether you're good at bake sales or don't mind passing the bucket at football games, your Carers' Group needs you--please contact us for more information if you're able to pitch in with a little fundraising for a very good cause.

    What's all this fund-raising for?

Current costs include producing and mailing the monthly newsletter, running the monthly coffee mornings, and the printing costs associated with awareness campaigns to reach more local Carers.

Future plans include a series of Activity Days, which will include informal training in various caring-related topics such as First Aid, Relaxation Techniques, Elder Care, Healthy Cooking, etc., combined with a bit of relaxation such as picnics, beach walks, and tours of local attractions.

There's always the Annual Break to fund, and the more resources we have, the more Carers we can host on our trips. We're also expanding our new Transport and Respite Care scheme, which of course needs funds to support it. Other possibilities open up with successful fund-raising: for instance, we could one day provide 'scholarships' to allow members to attend Carers' educational conferences, training, or seminars that they otherwise couldn't attend, either due to lack of funds or lack of respite care on the day. What would you like to see us achieve with our group? E-mail us with your ideas.
